SARAH DUNN, LCSW

About Me
I believe the key to successful therapy is building a warm, trusting, and non-judgmental relationship where my clients feel seen and heard. Feeling safe to explore vulnerable thoughts and feelings is primary. In the room, clients have often found me deeply heartfelt, attuned and curious. It is through these active and collaborative conversations that clients achieve a greater understanding of themselves, which in turn paves the way for growth and change.

I have worked for over 15 years as a therapist and clinical supervisor in the Bay Area, with vast experience serving adults and couples. My approach is eclectic, drawing upon the tools necessary to achieve progress. Analytic psychology greatly influences my approach and I am currently training to become a certified psychoanalyst at the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco. I have found that alongside more concrete tools and interventions, analytic psychology offers a more enduring and substantial opportunity for change. Moving about the world without this depthful understanding of our emotions and our unconscious is like fumbling in the dark – it allows something outside of our control and awareness to drive the car for us. It is through grappling with our unconscious that we discover more expansive choices, greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and more meaningful progress.

There are many things that draw us to therapy. Some arrive struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or career uncertainty. Others feel stuck in repetitive patterns that don't serve them or are having difficulty managing the ups and downs inherent in parenthood. Whatever your goals and challenges, I welcome the opportunity to see whether I may be a good fit for your journey.

"It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go we have come to our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings."
